The Tour de France comes to Mönchengladbach. When the tour visits our city on Sunday, July 2nd, there will be lot of things to experience. The city is organizing three so-called „hot spots“ that do not only allow a good view of the race, but also offer a corresponding social program. These „hot spots“ will be the Bunter Garten behind the KFH and at Bismarckstraße, as well as on „Tellmannplatz“ in Rheydt and on the market square in Wickrath A program is available not only on the tour day itself. Even ahead of the event, some activities are meant to prepare for the Tour de France.

On the tour day itself, there will be three „hot spots“ that provide a social program for young and old:

  • The first „hot spot“ is at the Kaiser-Friedrich-Halle located close to the first intermediate sprint at Bismarckstraße. In cooperation with the Niederrheinischer Radwandertag everything will center on the bicycle. In addition, a bicycle obstacle for kids is planned. A large screen will broadcast the entire leg from Düsseldorf to Liège and also inform the VIP guests in the Kaiser-Friedrich-Halle about the current status of the race. The „VIP Special“ package is available for 250€ per person incl. taxes and VAT via and guarantees a seat in the VIP great stand, as well as access to the sprint-after-party. The social program starts at 10 am with the start of the Niederrheinischer Radwandertag and ends at about 6 pm. A 50 square meter video screen will also inform about the Tour de France at the Bismarckstraße itself. Four great stands will be constructed at the sprint distance.
  • The second „hot spot“ is the „Tellmannplatz“ in Rheydt. Again, a large screen is set up. A colorful stage program is planned. The City Management Rheydt plans to provide French flair at this hot spot.
  • On June 29th, 2017, the Wickrather market square is the third point of reference for all visitors who want to experience more. Here, especially families will find an interesting program. Planned are several spectacular and spacious inflatables that will let children’s hearts beat faster. A video screen is also available here. „In addition, there certainly will be other offers at the route. There are private providers who have already registered with us, but we still have to negotiate about this,“ says Elma Esser – project manager of the MGMG. It is clear, however, that any offers of commercial nature require appropriate permissions, emphasized Esser. „We then take a look at what is possible.“
